Z axis not accurate when jogging

I notice that when I try to jog my Z axis up and down by a mm it is moving around 5mm… I have tried setting up machine but still have an issue. Never had this problem before. Any ideas where to start?

What machine do you have?

Something is really out of kilter, when I jog an inch it moves 5 inches. All connections are solid.

What machine?

1000x1000 w upgraded 6"slider

Did you reset the $=102 setting after the instalation?

not sure what you are referring too.
in my code it is $102=188.976

My Z is not responding properly … not sure why all the sudden it has gone out of whack. I added a 6 inch slider over a year ago and never had any issues till now.

When i try to jog the z axis up or down by an inch it goes nearly 4 inches

@JonUdell When you run the setup in Easel, you reset your Z steps/mm. That’s your $102 setting. Without more details about your Z axis upgrade, I can’t tell you what it should be.
It’d be helpful to know exactly how far your Z travels compared to your one inch jog.
Alternatively, if you know the pitch of the screw, we could determine it that way.
Basically, if you’re traveling 4x too far, you need to divide $102’s value by 4.

The upgrade which was well over a year ago and dialed in is a 6" slider from cnc4newbies. my $102 line reads $102=188.976

That would be the setting for the stock z axes. Your setting now should be around 50.059 to get you close then you would need to calibrate it. When you go back and reset the machine it goes back to the original settings.
