i just ordered and recivend mine (v1 version )
Here is the email i sent to @Jennchepurny (suckit) once i had recieved the first unit.
Dear Suckit,
I must inform you people at Suckit, that i have never ever
ever in all my years of dealings with any company, people, or mfg, ever
been so impressed with a product and even more, the packaging. It was so
nicely packaged and bubble wrapped it blew me away.
Was an absolute pleasure putting it together and so simple to install.
Even more so, i was impressed with the exra safety hardware, and the
documentation included was super professional grade.
Color me pickled.
Thanks so much.
Mo.
I am waiting for mine.
I really need it too.
There is dust all over my little room.
Here’s is an update on the new “MZD” (Maximum Z-Axis Depth) version of Suckit. They have improve the Suckit by reducing its footprint but relieved the surface of the shoe so that my DWP611 can go even deeper.
I posted a video here:
And here is the final work with NO dust.
Get yours NOW, I love mine.
Just a heads up, it looks like the Z Probe Socket on the new X-Carve is going to get in the way of dust boot mounting brackets including the Suckit.
It will not matter to me. I can put the plug anywhere off of any hole or bolt and make a mount for it.
I just got my suckit and it is awesome! Love how it makes keeping the dust under control and it didn’t even bother my Limit switches.
One more thing about the new version of Suckit, As an added bonus you can remove the thin shield that is held in by 2 small screws and put a 1 or even 2 inch diameter fly cutter in to reduce the time for doing a leveling cut of a scrap board or even the project itself. Less passes less time.
When I first saw that thin plate I was concerned that it would flap under suction and make an annoying noise, so I tried it - it didn’t.
Mine does slightly if I am making a full cut with a closed pocket, I get a small rattle from it with the 1HP dust collector. But it’s not too bad, and is certainly less than the router noise!
Hey Phil,
I bought the Suck It. Figured my time was worth more to me than re-designing the wheel. Thier customer service is great but to me the product suffers and likely yours would also as I find with mine the weight of the vacuum hose puts a notable tork on the Y ( right to left ) axis, and the hose is in my way. I like to see the machine work.
So rather than have all that hanging out front why not under sling the shoe under the Y axis and run the vacuum port up the back of the Y axis and Z trolley
My other issue is with the shoe getting hung up on my clamps…any thoughts would be appreciated. Please don’t respond “use smaller clamps” I thought of that already.
@Jennchepurny Longer brushes sounds like a good upgrade option for the Suckit.
No, they have replacement brushes (1") only.
Hey. I figured out a solution to the z probe interference issue!
Anyone interested PM me.
I was contacted by @Jennchepurny and asked to test out the planned change to the SuckIt mounting method to support the Z probe. It arrived this week and I did my first few carves with it today and it’s a good change to the mounts. They’ve made each corner an individual piece that also has a deep enough groove to secure the lateral position. No major issues were seen using the new mounts. As for the probe, the piece is widen in the back to allow the socket and sleeve to go further in and protrude more. Operationally, I had no issues at all and I was using the Inventables Z probe cabling. I was told they aren’t quite ready for sale but it’s a welcome change in my eyes.
I also got to working with the MZD version I ordered and it’s definitely worth upgrade to if you haven’t. I didn’t have any concerns with hitting the boot.
Wait so if we get the new xcarve the suckitdustboot.com boot wouldn’t work for it?
It works but it currently blocks the Z probe as it’s mounted on the Xcarriage. Quite a few different dust boots would have this issue. You can just move the Z probe socket and everything will work.
Dang it, looks like I may be in the same boat. I have a new xcarve on the way but preemptively got the Suck-It. Guess I’ll be shipping it back and waiting for the new one.
My mistake, should have done my homework.
It’s only the Z probe and only as it’s mounted in the Xcarriage. If you take the socket out of the Xcarriage, it still works exactly the same and you get the benefit of the SuckIt. You may want to contact them directly to get better ideas of the lead times.
Cool, thanks Justin. Is there anywhere else to mount the z probe?
It doesn’t need to be mounted. A good chunk of users use probes that are hard wired into the electronics with no socket at all, the socket is just convenience and helps make the Xcarve product more user friendly for a wider audience. You can zip tie it to the top of the carriage (I believe I saw an open hole for one) or just have it tied to the drag chain. If you don’t tighten the zip tie all the way for the end, you can pull it in and out and just use it to keep the socket from dragging. Not sure what @Phantomm has planned for his workaround so you may want to talk with him.
The improvements for the SuckIt are great and only make it better. Since the probe is a new feature, not all third party accessories have caught up to it. Bravo to SuckIt for being proactive and trying to reduce the lag time. I’ve yet to be disappointed with their customer service, the same with Inventables as well.
