Help setting up an x carve with screwdrive

hi all, new to the forum. a friend gave me an x carve with phantoms screwdrive upgrade kit. i was able to get it assembled and moving, but i am having a hard time with the settings. by the calculations, it seems i need a step/mm around 200! this seems like something is wrong. any ideas?

You might find some information here

Russell

360°/1.8°=200 steps per rev.
200 * 8 (microstep) = 1600 steps per revolution.
1600/8mm per revolution leadscrew= 200 steps/mm

This assumes a 8mm pitch leadscrew which I think is pretty common.

Yes. S/MM is determined by the step rate. Im usually cutting very fine details so I use a finer resolution on my tuning profile.

Basically you need to fine tune the steps per mm setting for your machine…I had to do it a couple of times, getting closer each time. This link goes through it pretty clearly.
