So, finally had a chance to get the new bed on… Man is it sweet! And I must have done something right with the initial setup. Three out of the four corners indicated in at less than .002 from one another. The fourth corner was off by . 005, which I adjusted to less than. 002. I’ve got a small hump down the middle but it’s . 005 off or less so I don’t think I’m going to worry about it.
Very very nice.
So, have a small issue. Perhaps PhilJohnson knows the remedy. I have the new z axis up and ready to go. I was going to use UGS to calculate the new z screw with the 1-2-3 block setup, but I can’t seem to get the UGS to have the machine position readout under Machine Status. Anyone have a clue?
Can you share your grbl settings?

That’s the status report value. One is default.
Ah, ok. I didn’t change it to the 115. So it came from inventables that way. I’ll try it and report back.
You’ll need a newer version of UGS.
Or another sender (I like CNCjs).
Grbl went through a major update, so the GUIs had to be updated as well.
With GRBL v1.1f there were interface changes so you’ll need a sender compatible, as Neil was mentioning.
I prefer the UGS v2.0 Platform version. It’s much better, in my opinion, than the Classic.
https://winder.github.io/ugs_website/download/
I didn’t have success with the “beta” build as it has some issues with GCode parsing out of the box. The nightly build, however, has been pretty solid for me. I update it on a semi-regular basis to grab new features. The newer DRO of the Platform build is much improved.
I REALLY Like the look of the cncjs. Any tutorials out there how to utilize it better?
Ah. Ok. So I downloaded the platform. I have readings now! Yay! But I can’t seem to get them out of mm and read in IN".
G20 doesn’t work?
(I don’t use UGS)
That’s one of those config variables.
Type $$ and then look at the list and it should be clear
It moves in inches. But the machine readout on ugs is in mm.
@JustinBusby is referring to $13, but I always keep that at zero (default, mm), and let the UI do the math. I’d be surprised if UGS can’t do that without modifying grbl settings.
EDIT: Looks like that’s the way to do it in UGS…$13=1
I have my ugcs reporting in inches and it works with no trouble. Send $13=1 and then reset and you should then see reporting in inches.
Cool. Thanks for the help guys! At work on a Saturday… I’ll try it when I get home.
All is well! Changing the $13 worked. The new Z Axis is all finished! I modded the inventables dust brackets to work with the new Z axis. Had to shim them out about .365 to still be on center with the spindle. But I just drilled and tapped the y slide and cut the brackets down for clearance!
