The videos are awesome! Nice little shop you have there Helge!
I know it’s not 100% on-topic but what kind of speeds’n’feeds are people getting with hardwood and a good finish on their parts with this mount and the Makita? Would love to hear what settings people use comfortably
A fair number of people have shared feeds and speeds on the Shapeoko wiki: Shapeoko CNC Router, Rigid, Accurate, Reliable, and Affordable and at least some of them are other Makita users.
What’s the relevance Will? Our machines are fairly different as many of us have upgraded beyond the standard config. Besides I think Tony is trying to see in what way, (if any) the new mount changes things.
If I wanted to know feeds and speeds, wouldn’t it be best to just learn them rather than regurgitate old data. The math isn’t that hard

I checked the recommendation in that link for Aluminum. At the feed rate they recommended you are feeding way to slow and the tool is rubbing more than cutting.
Feed rate should be more like 1400 mm/min.
Just from that 1 example I would not use the numbers shown in the link.

John et al - First, many thanks for taking this project on - the mounts are fantastic.
I know the mount can have a Delrin nut on the top or bottom. I noticed that some of the pictures the nut is mounted at the top - is there any particular reason? I’ve placed mine at the bottom under the assumption it will provide a little more stability, but I can also make a case for the top.

You can use both locations to help with backlash. For just one, they are usually on top.
John, didn’t have chance to thank you for on time delivery. I received my order, packed together and load container very next day. That was perfect timing. Now I’m in Turkey, as soon as finish setting up my shop, I’ll test and share photos. Thanks again.
@JohnScherer Are you still running these production batches?
You plan to ditch the Dewalt, Alan?
Not exactly, my Dewalt already riched to end of work hours. Bearings started to woble. I just want to see difference, speed, noise level, body weigh ETC.
Oki. Just being curious.
I’m sure you will like the Makita. It’s a neat little machine.
Here is a “proof of life” photo of my X-Carve and the router mount. Just got to do the first test carve yesterday. I received the X-Carve kit almost three months ago, but then the router mount got delayed and then I was so busy at work till Christmas that I didn’t have any time for play. Well, here it is, finally.
I didn’t order the waste board, because it just didn’t seem to make much sense to pay international shipping for a piece of fiber board. Unfortunately it also meant that I didn’t get the associated mounting hardware. The threaded inserts were quite easy to find, but pre-assembly insertion nuts were nowhere to be found locally. One of the nuts in the kit was also faulty (no threads). I ended up fabricating the insertion nuts from a 4 mm thick angle bracket. These DIY nuts are not pretty, but they worked.
Next on the list is dust removal…
@JohnScherer. Just wondering if you are still offering the mount hardware for Makita? Cheers
I was planning on doing another run once I had 12 confirmed ordered. I currently have 10 people on a wait list, you would make 11. Hard to say exactly how long a run takes though. Could be 2 weeks, or it could be 4 weeks. It depends on my machinist’s workload and some other factors. If your interested, make sure you get fill out the form I linked to at the top of this thread.
I’ll be sending out an email this coming week, to everyone on the wait list. I’ll be asking for your commitment on the mounts so I can get the next batch ordered. If everyone confirms, I’ll get the order to the machine shop at that time, and get some estimate as to how long he thinks they will take. If I have less than 10 confirmed ordered, I’ll have to wait for more orders.
Once he starts the production run, I’ll invoice everyone via paypal. I’d like to collect the money for these and get him paid as soon as possible.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I have very little control over how long these will take to produce. The shop is a real job shop with military customers, whos jobs take precedence over mine. Just how it is.
US orders will be $100 which includes USPS Priority shipping
International orders will be $120 because of shipping costs. (USPS Priority International, and yes, it is my cheapest option if I want tracking)
Cheers
I am trying to make sure that I get the optional components from Inventables.
So far I have the second delrin nut in my basket.
https://www.inventables.com/technologies/delrin-nut#25280-01
For the additional v-wheels, do I order two of these?
What about the spacers, what do I need?
https://www.inventables.com/categories/machine-components/spacers
Is there anything else that I would need to get from Inventables?
Thanks.
No email as of yet.
Did I perhaps mess up the registry form thingy?
John, I’ve been following this thread for a while now & I really appreciate your efforts - incredibly selfless.
I’m hoping that I made it to the current waiting list (no email confirmation from the online form). I’m happy to pay right up front if it helps at all.
Cheers.
