Wow, all that time waiting to get disappointed, I was gonna order one but then I changed my mind and I made one with the help of Phil’s design. I hope that all the other ones are not the same and that they can get you another back to you right away Darryl. I feel your pain!
There’s no adjustment available left to right, I have the stock 611 in the stock spindle mount. I can twist the spindle all day long, it wont matter, the bit is not centered on the hole, look at the final pic. I have to cut that hole bigger, and we all know how much fun that is and how crappy it will look
Lets see what others have to say, here is hoping its just one of those random deals. Contact him directly.
Yep, I’m going to him a few days, I’m sure he’s busy getting orders shipped…
Yeah, pretty bummed, I was counting down the days and had to stop myself from making my own several times. Big let down, but these things happen
I’d love to know which one is not centered, the bit or the Suckit hole.
Hey Darryl… So sorry to hear you are having issues. LarryM informed me of your post. I have reviewed your pictures and tried recreating the scenario . One thing I found was that it is possible that your Z-Axis makerslide is not centered on your X-Carriage. There are 4 screws that hold the makerslide to the X-Carriage. if you loosen them you should be able to center your Z-Axis. Can you please let me know if this helps. Also, can you please take some measurements of the dust shoe center hole and let me know what you find.
I’m sorry to hear Darryl is having issues. I just received mine as well and it went together quickly and with no problems. After looking at your pictures is it possible that your Z-axis maker slide is not centered on your X-carriage?
Yeah, not much slop there at all, already tried with no success. I’ll take measurements when i get home and send over.
I know you’re swamped getting orders out, so I can wait, I’ve waited this long, a bit longer wont hurt.
Thanks for reaching out.
OK, thanks… Can you also take some measurements of your Z-Axis makerslide position to the X-Carriage edges?
Glad to hear it. Now I need to figure out what’s going on with Darryl’s.
Optical illusion, angle of the photo. Spindle is dead straight.
So I checked further. The hole is dead center in the acrylic, 25mm diameter, looks great, and if I let the carriage drop to its lowest position and don’t tighten the screws it looks centered, but if I try to raise it and tighten the screws, its off center. I’m going to pull the sides and try shimming with a washer.
The good news is it shipped FAST, the kit is very well built, the magnets are awesome, overall, as reviewed coming out of the box, 5 stars. Getting it installed, that top piece is way to tight and I had to grind it a bit. Operation is great, I think I just got a kit that’s a bit out of spec.
If you have one on order, I wouldn’t cancel, you’ll like it.
And… I have a CNC, so ill be widening the hole for the bit so the off-centeredness wont be an issue.
More updates tomorrow.
Mark, do you already have a easel project or crv file for the hole for a festool? Mine is the hole-less design.
Thanks!
Hi all. Long time no post.
My Suckit arrived today also. Took about 10 mins to set up.
Mine doesn’t seem to have any of the problems described above- it’s pretty well centered, has clearance for the carriage to travel, and the eccentric nuts can move a bit- though perhaps not all the way. Which I take to be a good thing, because they’re set exactly as I want them and I would rather they don’t move any more.
The top and bottom mounts fit fine on the first try. I did need to adjust the height of the z-makerslide as it was originally mounted too low to allow the mount to fit in, but that took about 5 mins to loosen, adjust, and square again.
I cut a reducer to fit my vacuum’s hose and hot glued it into the insert that came with the Suckit. Ran my first job, no dust escaped. I’m a fan.
I was waffling on just designing my own, but there’s a few clever design ideas here that would have taken me a while to figure out, and I was happy to see this on Kickstarter. I feel it was worth the money to not be tracking sawdust all over my house, from my tiny second-bedroom workshop.
I just installed mine and everything went smooth. I’d post pics but after @MichaelUna1’s, they would just be redundant.
I did have to adjust the z-carriage so the top mount would fit, and that took the bulk of the install time. Can’t complain about that!
@MarkChepurny nice job on this - thank you!
I’m looking forward to being able to cut MDF again.
One thing I wanted to ask though, I was going to make myself a dust extractor similar to what Matthias Wandel has made here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoGXZgeDSBc&index=19&list=PLSnvVtM4lBIU_vvcYBfR0BxHeBgzQyd5n.
I thought it would be a fun project but also because I heard that you shouldn’t run a normal vacuum cleaner for as many hours as is needed by the x carve.
What are the rest of you going to do?
Harbor Freight 2.5HP dust collector. Low cost and works all day long with no problems.
Oh, I’d love to have one of those Alan! I’m in Australia though so I’m looking for a cheaper option. It’s either going to be something home made or a vacuum cleaner!
@EmilianoMolina Yeah, limited options for dust collectors in Oz. It’s either Carbatec or Machinery House (Hare and Forbes). A 2HP using with set you back about $A350.
I have an old DeWalt unit but it’s way under powered and with a 100mm hose, a bit of pain to use, no dust shoe yet.
