So here's a new one

Change this to 115 ($10=115)

Are both ends of the socket (device in picture) disconnected when you do the continuity check?

Make sure that the tip of the plug does not touch the wire that crosses the bottom of the socket when it’s plugged in.

Larry,
I unplugged from the controller when I did the continuity test.
I’m strictly touching the wires.
I didn’t want to start cutting wires until I was sure of what I’m doing.

Larry,
I don’t know how to change that setting

Wait…
I think I just did it.

Follow the instructions above for bringing up the grbl parameters. Change the value in the left panel. Press the green SEND button, press the violet SAVE button, when prompted save it in the spindle.txt file and you will have to confirm over writing the file.

After you do that go into PicSender connect to your system and press the “?” button in the main window and post the response here.

<Idle,MPos:0.0000,0.0000,0.0000,WPos:1.2500,1.2500,-1.5000,Pin:000|0|0000>

Ok, now connect the probe socket to the X-controller and do the “?” again. Post the results.

Larry,
The socket was plugged into the controller.
Or do you mean with the touch plate plugged in to the scoket?

I actually got it running right now.
I found that when it wouldn’t probe, I rotated the touch plate plug in the socket and it worked.
I will however go through that motion and report back to you.
Now that the machine is running, I really don’t want to stop.
I’m behind schedule on a carve for my granddaughter’s birthday.

If you got it working you don’t need to do that test. It sounds like the touch plate plug is not making good contact in the socket.

Thank you for all your help Larry.

I’m curious as to how the damn thing ran at all with the socket shorted out.
I did as Haldor suggested and snipped the red wire extension.
Now I have good continuity.

Is that the Inventables probe?

yes it is

So in my mind, if the electronics is so sensitive on these machines, I have to wonder if any damage has been done on the inside because of this short.
It came with the machine back in October of last year.

@Zach_Kaplan

Hi, Zach. Can you have someone look into the wiring of the probe socket shown in the pictures above?

Thanks…
Larry

No, Not likely.

I agree with Larry. The plug shorted is no different than when the touch plate contacts a grounded bit.

Glad you found the issue Jan. Happy Birthday to your granddaughter.
